Moises Jacobs, MD, FACS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained bariatric and general surgeon who has spent his entire career serving patients in Miami and around the world. He is the Medical Director of the Gastric Sleeve Center at Jackson South Hospital and one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the region and the nation. He graduated from the University of Miami Medical School in 1979 and finished his general surgery residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1984.
Dr. Jacobs is world-renowned as a pioneer in laparoscopy (minimally invasive surgery) and has taught and mentored hundreds of surgeons worldwide. Some of his many accomplishments include:
- 1990 Performed the first laparoscopic colectomy in the world
- 1991 Began performing hiatal hernia and anti-reflux repairs
- 1994 Began performing gastric bypass
- 1999/2002 Investigator for the two gastric bands approved in the United States
- 2005 Performed his first gastric sleeve procedure
- 2005 Began performing revisional bariatric surgery
