About Our Bariatric Practice

Dr. Moises Jacobs and Dr. Eddie Gomez have made laparoscopic bariatric surgery their life’s work. The group was the first in Miami to perform various bariatric procedures, including laparoscopic gastric bypass in 1996, placement of laparoscopic bands in 2000 (as part of the Inamed FDA trial on bands in 2000 and with Johnson & Johnson in 2004 for the second FDA trial), and in 2005 performed the first gastric sleeve in Miami. Since 2005, they have refined the gastric sleeve technique creating smaller gastric tubes and using smaller caliber instruments. They also form part of a teaching faculty for gastric sleeve courses. In addition to bariatrics, they also perform colorectal, heartburn, and general surgery.
